Send In The Clones: The Clone Wars 3.75″ Custom Action Figures

ActionPink 2014 3.75″ Line

Once I researched and purchased the paints that I wanted, I was ready to begin creating custom action figures. One of my problems with Hasbro was that they were moving away from creating characters from The Clone Wars, still a favorite show, and there were still many characters I wanted – especially the newer Clone Commanders such as Doom and Thire as well as Obi-Wan Kenobi in disguise as a Mandalorian Death Watch Soldier.

I began looking for loose Star Wars action figures at thrift shops, garage sales, and even eBay and Craigslist. I rounded up some gently used Clones and Mandalorians and started creating.

To begin I chose Clone characters that had been done before on the 3.75″ scale but didn’t have the weathering and battle damage that I had appreciated about Sideshow 1/6 Scale figures and I thought that I could make smaller versions that captured the spirit of the larger, more expensive sculpts.

I Started listing the custom figures that I was creating in my eBay store and found that they would sell fairly quickly. I started getting requests for other Clones. I made a Clone Commander Doom with a Trooper and the a Clone Commander Thire. I got better at the weathering and battle damage, but I was not where I wanted to be yet with my detail work.

Shortly after I finished my first “Wave” of figures, and after I had completed a couple of the upcoming Wave II, I abandoned the 3.75″ scale altogether in favor of Hasbro’s 6″ Black Series Line. The figures were larger and more articulate which made it easier to add small details. I was excited at the possibilities of creating new characters by combining the figures that Hasbro had so far released. I had already started to create my own versions of characters such as Dark Jedi Obi-Wan, and the possibilities were endless.

Occasionally I will paint a figure smaller than 6″ but for the most part I stick with larger scales, but more on that later.
